500 years have passed since Carlos I signed with Magallanes the so-called capitulations of Valladolid by which the Spanish monarch-after Portugal rejected the project-made available to the expedition the impressive figure -for today and then- of five ships The objective of the dangerous trip was to find a maritime passage that would lead to the recently discovered South Sea (later known as the Pacific Ocean).

The vowel of History and Patrimony of the Athenaeum of Motril, ISABEL MARTÍNEZ DE RODA, will speak on this V centenary with her lecture entitled "Five hundred years of the first round the world".
