Jesús Lobillo and Carmen Méndez will be 'Benalmadenses of the year 2020'

During the plenary session in November, it was unanimously approved to consider 'Benalmadenses of the Year 2020' Jesús Lobillo Ríos and Carmen Méndez Salas.

“Both Jesús Lobillo Ríos and Carmen Méndez Salas are very dear people in Benalmádena, and with this recognition we want to praise the important work they do within our municipality,” said the mayor of Benalmádena, Víctor Navas, who has announced that the distinction is will deliver during the celebration of the institutional act of Andalusia Day in 2020.

Through the 'Benalmadenses of the Year', the Municipal Corporate Plenary of the city of Benalmádena annually distinguishes those people who have stood out for their activity, their civic example or their contribution to the community.

“Jesús Lobillo Ríos and Carmen Méndez Salas deserve the general recognition of citizenship and the consideration of Benalmadenses of the year for their work in the field of social and intellectual fabric the one, and for their magnificent solidarity work among the poorest in the case of Méndez ”, the mayor has valued.

Jesús Lobillo Ríos was born in Córdoba in October 1943, becoming a doctor at the age of 21 in the same city of Córdoba, later moving to Madrid, where he became the head of the Department of the rehabilitation department of the Ramón hospital and Cajal.

An inveterate reader, music lover and traveler, he stands out for his kind, patient and thoughtful character. Married with three children, he moved to Arroyo de la Miel, where he quickly entered the cultural life of the city. In 2016, he founded the Ateneo Libre de Benalmádena with other people, and since then it has been running regularly and has incorporated Benalmádena into the movement of athenaeums.

Carmen Méndez Salas was born on August 19, 1972 in Malaga, immediately moving to Arroyo de la Miel. Since his youth he was a very active person in the practice of sports and volunteer activities, until in 2012 he visited Tanzania with a co-worker, knowing an orphanage located in the village of Machumba in the city of Arusha that the left impressed.

Two years later, and after a complicated personal situation, Carmen returns to the orphanage and decides to get personally involved in improving her conditions, which at that time were very deficient.

Create an association to channel aid to this orphanage, and from there have been numerous activities that have been done to raise funds, from exhibitions to concerts, going through plays, getting much of the city involved in this sensational solidarity work.

Thanks to these funds, which go entirely to the children of the orphanage, it has significantly improved its facilities to house about 90 children who have lost their families and belong to the sector most hit by poverty. In the center they receive the attention, food, clothing, education and medical care that every child needs, where Méndez's contribution has been crucial, with great pride from his fellow citizens.
