In 2016, LOEWE FOUNDATION launched the annual LOEWE international craft award to showcase and celebrate novelty, excellence and artistic merit in modern craftsmanship.
LOEWE creative director, Jonathan Anderson, conceived the initiative inspired by the beginnings of LOEWE as an artisan cooperative in 1846, with the aim of recognizing the importance of art in today's culture and recognizing artisans whose talent, vision and will innovate will establish a standard for the future.

The LOEWE Craft Award seeks to recognize and support international artisans of any age (over 18 years of age) or gender who demonstrate an exceptional ability to create objects of superior aesthetic value. By identifying the work that reinterprets existing knowledge to make it relevant today, while reflecting the personal language and the distinctive hand of its creator, LOEWE FOUNDATION aims to highlight the continuous contribution of art to the culture of our time.
