(THE OENOLOGICAL INSTITUTE)

The construction of this building in 1913 by the Town Council reflects the need to modernise and promote viticulture, after its crisis at the end of the 19th century. Hence, it provided training and was used for agricultural experiments in the field of viticulture.

The design was commissioned to the agronomist Antoni Ballester, but Arnest Mestre, later the director of the institute, may also have been involved in the project.

The building is situated on the Passeig Ramon Llull promenade and fits into the historicist style, which was still present in the first decades of the 20th century. At present the building is used by the local administration.
