The municipality of Felanitx is situated in the south-east of the island Mallorca and covers an area of 171.67 km2. Thus, it is the fourth largest township of the island.

It borders the municipality of Santanyi to the south, Campos and Porreres to the west, Vilafranca and Manacor to the north and the Mediterranean Sea to the east.

A small mountain range that begins in Artà and ends in the plain of Santanyí determines the orography of the municipality. Its highest peaks are Puig de Sant Salvador (510 m), Puig de s'Envestida (417 m), Sa Comuna (415 m) and Castell de Santueri (399 m).

Given these features, three clearly defined, natural areas can be distinguished within the township: La Marina (the coastal plain), Sierra de Levante (the eastern mountains) and the inland plain.

In the inland of Felanitx there are several populated places, such as Cas Concos d'es Cavaller, Es Carritxó, s'Horta, Son Valls, Son Mesquida, Son Negre and Son Prohens; in addition to the three coastal towns: Portocolom (one of the most important natural harbours of the island), Cala Ferrera and Cala Serena.

Felanitx and Portocolom, with high building density and therefore large populations, are the two main population centres. The others are small, less populated places.

Some settlements in the municipality connect to the city by narrow country roads (Son Prohens, Son Negre, Son Valls and Son Mesquida).

The road network between the other places is well developed (s’Horta, Es Carritxó, Cala Ferrera/Cala Serena, Portocolom and Cas Concos).
